Who is reviewing this thing? Dec 31, 2009
By Badgeless Tramp If you have principles, do not buy this book. The author says straight up in one section that he bought a business on ebay for $1,100 and found that he was ripped off - the business was just a website template. Funny thing is, he just turned around and sold it at the same price on ebay, ruining someone else's finances as well.
He says in the book that when writing web content, you should not do any editing - just slap some content on the page and send it out. This is exactly what he did with this book, it's obvious. It has not been edited. He self-published it in the same unscrupulous way that he ran every "business" that he has had.
There is zero relevant or useful info in this book. He just talks about 4 or 5 businesses which he ran, having desperate writers work for him, and calls it "the definitive guide to making money online".. yeah, if you're a crook like him.

Excellent resource, one star shy of "definitive" Mar 02, 2009

"Word Merchant"
Mr. Covington's excellent and informative book was filled with ideas and resources for writers. The book contains less than 75 pages, distributed in 9 chapters, and touches on a variety of writing opportunities such as blogs, sales letter writing, and press releases. In each chapter, he clearly defines each type of writing opportunity, and provides advantages and disadvantages of each type of writing, along with some advice on future opportunities and his opinions on market domination for each type of writing. The book is an invaluable source of relevant websites. Within a day of completing the book, I had found no less than a half-dozen potential writing gigs as a direct result of his recommendations. My sole criticism of the book is the lack of info on marketing. As he opted to title the book "The DEFINITIVE Guide to Making Money Online with Your Writing" I feel a chapter on marketing would certainly be appropriate. NOTE: I sent an email to the author describing my criticism and received a response on the SAME DAY, advising me he was close to completing an entire book on internet marketing. Based on the book I just read from this author, as well as his quick response, I am certain to purchase it. Overall, a very strong recommendation for Mr. Covington's highly informative and inspirational book.

Interesting topic. Feb 25, 2010
By Michael Harrison This book is a good resource for anyone who is trying to get into freelance writing. The author includes several areas of need and a way to get your foot in the door. He takes each topic, such as blogging, and explains what is needed, how much growth can be expected, how to make contact with potential clients, and most importantly how much the pay is. The book is laid out in an easy to read format which makes it great for beginners to use.
This book is not going to make you rich. The author even says that most of the people that do freelance writing in this manner are looking for a little extra income. If you like to write and are looking into new avenues of earning a little extra cash, then this is a good book for you.

Good resource. Feb 25, 2010
By Lonna H. Clark Covington has written a book that not only fills you with great information about making money by using your talent as a writer, but it also motivates you to get out there and do something. He takes a look at a few of the areas of writing available including blogs, newsletters, and webpage content. He explains how to find these jobs, what pay to expect, and the pros and cons associated with each type of job.
I really enjoyed reading this book. It is written from experience, which gives it an added edge. It is also written in plain conversational language. There are no fancy words or catch phrases to try and draw the reader in or lull them with false promises. After reading this book, I am curious to see if I have what it takes to take on a few writing tasks
