Retailing Management by Levy and Weitz is the best-selling textbook in the retailing market.

Retailing is a high tech, global, growth industry that provides challenging and rewarding career opportunities for college graduates. This book and its corresponding tools and exercises were written to expose students to the excitement of retailing and prepare them for a career in retailing and related fields.

Known for its strategic look at retailing and current coverage, this new 7th edition continues to be organized around a model of strategic decision-making. One of the major advantages of the Levy/Weitz approach is the text’s readability, organization, and its emphasis on how students can come to grips with real retailing issues and be able to solve problems. The text’s logical organization around a decision-making process allows readers to learn about the process of strategic decisions first before moving on to decision implementation. The implementation decisions are broken down into merchandise management decisions and store management decisions, just as they would be in a real retailing setting.

The text provides a balanced treatment of strategic, “how to,” and conceptual material, in a highly readable and interesting format. The seventh edition continues its cutting edge coverage on the latest topics and developments in retailing including globalization; customer relationship management programs; multi-channel retailing; supply chain management, the use of the Internet to improve operating efficiencies and customer service; and legal, ethical and cooperate social responsibility issues.. Students indicate that this text is a “good read” because of the numerous examples of retailers, their practices, the interesting retail facts in the margins, and eye catching design and layout.

4Levy.Wietz vs. Berman.Evans  Nov 09, 2010 By texast58 "texast58"
I have taught Retailing using both the Berman.Evans text and the Levy.Wietz text.
Advantage of Levy.Wietz=more functional/practical information about retailing with regard to location/scope of physical location. Disadvantage is flow of the text itself causes for repetitive delivery of contents in many instances. usually when I teach using Levy.Wietz I organize chapters that meet practical needs of undergraduates.

Advantage of Berman.Evans is more strategy focused, includes more internet/ecommerce, organization of text is straight forward and non-repetitive. Disadvantage of Berman.Evans is lack of fundamental details on scope of physical location and selection criteria.

Comments from practitioner with 9 years experience in retailing and 6 years experience in strategic planning. I am now teaching at state university.

Both text book authors are due for new editions.

4Good basic book  Nov 27, 2010 By sborrego
I was a supplier of product to national groceries stores, had some idea of the overall basic retailing concepts, but this book is a good start if you haven't got any relation with this market segment.
Everything is explained to the least common denominator with very clear ideas and concepts.
But if your want something more detail, i dont't think this is for you.

3They Shut Down Website During Finals!  Jul 25, 2009 By tripleplaysaver "tripleplaysaver"
While the book is very well written, easy to follow and easy to study, McGraw-Hill shut down my link to this book's site during finals! And it won't be back until *after* my last quizzes are do. How could they time maintenance while classes are still in session? Access to Flashcards and test quizzes are now not guaranteed in my opinion. Disappointed.

4Just as good.  Nov 09, 2011 By Jenni
Needed it for a class. Just as good as newer editions. Check with your instructor about using an older edition but there is practically no difference.

5Great Purchase!  Sep 05, 2011 By justmyopinion
The book was in great condition, not a mark in it. I also received the book in the mail a lot sooner then I thought. I am extremely happy with the purchase and would buy from this person again.
