Gathered here for the first time is their groundbreaking work in poster design over the past two decades. Posters for theater, events, music, social issues, and self-promotion run the gamut of approaches and attitudes, but always reflects founders Mike Strassbuger and Robynne Raye's distinctive eye. What's moreand unusual in a design monographtheir text is laugh-out-loud funny on nearly every page. Interviews with Mike and Robynne by design luminaries James Victore and Rick Valicenti and an essay by critic Steven Heller illuminate the working methods of these creators of iconic and irreverent fin-de-sicle design. | | | |

Great Poster Design! Jun 07, 2008
By E. Hunter This is a very entertaining book from a group of very talented designers at Modern Dog. I heard the founders of Modern Dog being interviewed by Debbie Millman= and thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Modern Dog story. I highly recommend this book to all fans of the protest poster, and hilarious graphic communication.

The fine art of design Aug 26, 2008
By slice buckley As a graphic designer and fine artist I found this collective of poster design to be both inspiring and extremely funny. It's refreshing to see such a creative design studio not taking itself too seriously while at the same time doing work that is both timely and powerful. The joy of loving what you do shines through on each page. Bravo Modern Dog.

Inspiring! Aug 12, 2008

I am a professional freelance artist who specializes in poster design, and I found this book to be a wonderfully inspiring collection.
No two posters look alike; each have their own distinctive feel and approach and the stories behind them are equally interesting. I had never heard of Modern Dog before, and now I wonder where they've been all my life.
A throughly solid art book, I wish it had been twice as long!

Excellent Book by Excellent Designers Feb 05, 2011
By Karmen D'Castro For full disclosure, i know that as a graphic designer and a student under Mike Strassburger, it may seem that i am biased -- BUT i can say with all honesty, that i am definitely not. I highly recommend this book, not only because of the original ideas the people behind Modern Dog come up with are inspiring, but also because their passion and ingenuity comes through in fantastic harmony. Their work can be kitchy when it needs to be or it can be completely hand-crafted, and either way the end result is clean and with purpose. Their posters are so fun to look at and their product packaging is always hilarious. Get this book.
Great samples of poster art, but many of the images are small Mar 09, 2010
By Gord A. Grisenthwaite Great samples of poster art, but many of the images are small. Aside from the introductory essay, the book is thin on copy. On the other hand, most of the posters selected speak well for themselves. I bought Modern Dog along withNew Master's of Poster Design: Poster Design for the Next Century, and New Poster Art. As a group, I think they represent modern poster design well.
