5Delightful read  Aug 13, 2000
I picked this book up on a whim (it had an interesting cover) at the airport and was very pleasantly surprised. I liked it so much I felt compelled to e-mail the author to praise him. Now here I am writing a note on Amazon! A word of warning, however: if you are a traditional "suit," like I used to be, the book is probably not for you. But if you aren't a suit and have a very clever idea the world needs, this book is a must for your library. For me, Mischief Marketing opened the floodgates to many new ideas. I'm getting on a bit in life but I still came across dozens of eye-opening---even inspirational---themes that run throughout the book. I do wish the book came across as a bit more serious. It was great to be able to laugh outloud on almost every page, but I was somewhat disappointed that many good ideas in the book weren't explored with enough depth---almost as if they were just tossed in as an aside. I give it 4 1/2 stars (rounded up to 5). I highly recommend this book. A very delightful read.

4About Mischief Marketing  Oct 10, 2000 By Paul Addington
First let me state that I give the printed version of this book 4 stars, but the online version - the *uncensored* version, would get the 5th star, though I prefer to rate things by four leaf clovers, because I'm Irish, and...well, by whatever scale one may use, the results would be the same. That having been said, Mischief Marketing has opened up a way of looking at things for me - which had been there all along, but was fractured in the process of aging. And I'm not referring to any inner child schtick either! Where talking about things that are attributed to the child because that is where they are most often seen. What is so strange about having fun and enjoying what you pursue? Or feeling some hope against the machine that some voice (be it yours or someone elses) may be heard, which otherwise wouldn't? This book has renewed my hope and drive to degrees I don't think I'm even fully aware of yet. And I have begun utilizing many of the tactics with other artists as well.

It's a wonderful, funny, educational, inspirational and ultimately absolutely essential book. Thank you Mr. Simon.

5Excellent!  Sep 04, 2000 By Laura
I highley recommend this book to anyone. It's written very well and clearly. It has given me some great ideas on how to market myself and projects I have in the works. Plus the added interest on how other famous and not so famous people came up with imaginative ideas like (Mischief Marketing). Anyone interested in creative ways to market should buy this book. 5 star rating. I'm very pleased with this book and I'm glad I bought it. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

4One for " the little guy "  Aug 19, 2000 By Sseinna
I liked this book. It is a funny, unconventional marketing book. (It does not read like school marketing textbooks that I remember). But it's great entertainment, and it was inspirational, too. If you like trivia about famous people, this book is full of stories that certainly surprised and inspired me. All these very normal conventional people, who are now our Paragons of Success, appear to have gotten their starts doing things they might never consider doing today. Makes them seem more human. The author also brings up some very interesting things about Internet privacy, its dangers, and how to get around some of that using existing anonymity tactics. The book is packed with lots of information. There are stories, tips, conventional marketing strategies, Mischief Marketing strategies, places to visit, who did what, and business marketing trivia, so it's anything but boring! I recommend this book to all people trying to catch a break in life - everyone has to start somewhere and Mischief Marketing shows you, with a wink and a grin, how true that is and how to do just that.

5Strange Yet Fascinating  Sep 28, 2000 By Carl Dirac
This is a strange yet fascinating (and funny!) book.

I had no idea that so many famous people, past and present, did such bold and nutty things to get themselves started.

It really makes you think about what you might need to do in order to push past the Good Ole Boys who seem to have a lock on most fields.

My main criticism is that the book covers so many different techniques that it's hard to remember them all without re-reading practically the whole danged thing.

Still, I'd recommend this to anyone who could use a little inspiration. If all these famous people figured they had to do some pretty weird things to get recognized, then why should the rest of us -- who have maybe only half the talent of a lot of these cool people -- well, why should WE be so timid all the time?
