Getting your way? Or acting out like a spoiled brat? Dec 18, 2008 The title of the book is a mouthful: Little Green Book of Getting Your Way: How to Speak, Write, Present, Persuade, Influence, and Sell Your Point of View to Others.
And to be honest, I haven't read it. This isn't a review of the book but rather the author. I've had the pleasure [some would say displeasure] of interacting with this gentleman in a customer service capacity. I find it quite odd and peculiar that you have a man instructing others on how to speak, persaude and influence when he clearly comes across as a brass and vulgar bully. To be frank, the guy's a jerk.
He's every associate or manager's worst nightmare, whether they work in retail, restaurant or a hotel. Oh he's sure to get whatever he wants due to his belligerent and profanity-laden venom. Imagine the adult version of petulant child screaming at the top of his lungs until he gets his way. That pretty much epitomizes his negotiating "style". And yet here he is potentially creating the worst possible customer,patron or guest with his wisdom. Sad.
Mr. Gitomer, I may not be a self help sales guru, but I am smart enough to follow my Mother's fondest teachings. "Treat others as you wish to be treated." You'd do well to both follow and preach that advice so folks on BOTH sides of the counter can go home satisfied without feeling abused and taken advantage of.
Good Book On The Art Of Persuasion Nov 27, 2008 "Little Green Book of Getting Your Way" by Jeffrey Gitomer focuses on how to influence others to your point of view. I have read other Gitomer titles and while "Little Green Book" is not my personal favorite, there are some important bits of information:
1. Components of persuasion.
2. Principles of influencing others and persuasive writing.
3. 6 guidelines for a compelling presentation.
4. Elements of an effective Power Point presentation.
5. Reasons why people are afraid to make presentations.
6. Elements of a quality speech, a great performance, how to speak, and tactics for getting ready for a presentation.
7. Take responsibility for not making the sale and ways to persevere to make the sale.
8. What to say and not to say during the sales process.
9. Tips on becoming a better writer.
10. Elements to be mastered to have a great performance.
As with his other titles, Gitomer provides several "Git Bits" - summaries of various aspects of the sales process that may be obtained through his web site by typing in certain words or phrases.
While I do not much care for his sometimes "flowery" language, I REALLY do appreciate Gitomer's premise that the salesperson act in the customer's best interest instead of just trying to wow the potential customer with product features. Also, I like Gitomer's focus on the salesperson listening more and speaking lesss - I've tried this many times and it really works! Customers appreciate salespeople who are genuinely interested in them and not just pursuing a sale!
All in all, while not my personal favorite Gitomer title, a good one to read to help you in your persuasive abilities.

Just so-so Nov 23, 2008 The book is really about marketing, with glossy paper and odd shape, the book is clearly created to sell! At the same time, some of the tips in the book, though common sense, are needed to be reminded after every few years. For the price of the book and the short time needed to read this book, it is a fine book.
Want to Master The Power of Influence, Read This Book! Nov 15, 2008 All of the ingredients to being a better influencer are contained in this book. Who wouldn't want to improve their influencing skills? The reader is drawn into learning more about their own personal style of convincing or selling others, and Gitomer explains his ideas to us in a fun and enjoyable manner.
I love the key elements of pursuation that he explains in the beginning. They all make sense, and explain to me everything that I have learned to be successful in sales. The best part of this book is that Gitomer takes my learning to the highest level. I now have tips on how to speak and write to get my own way, speak and present to get my own way, present like a true performer, persist until I win, and do all of this with eloquence. I am so glad I have this book on my desk when I am getting ready for a presentation to be sure that I have practiced like a pro!

Good book Oct 05, 2008 This was a good book, it learned me a few new tricks, but I feel like it didn't cover everything. I haven't had the time to check out the internet resources being adviced about in the book yet.
