From paparazzi photographs to full page spreads in Vogue, this aptly lavish pictorial history chronicles Gucci's evolution since its 1921 inception in Florence, Italy. The range of shots and locations tells the story of Gucci's ubiquitous place in popular culture, without the aid of captions or credits (both relegated to the end of the book). Aside from a lengthy introduction recapping Gucci history, the collection allows the images to speak for themselves. The mix of old and new Hollywood celebrities shows Gucci spanning time, from Audrey Hepburn, Liza Minelli and Clark Gable to Brad Pitt, Sarah Jessica Parker and Madonna. Taking out the distraction of celebrity, the vibrant Gucci ad campaigns focus on the decadence of the many shoes, handbags and jewelry lines. "The Gucci Icons" section points to "The Bamboo," "The Horsebit," "The Web" and "The GG," staple logos and designs present in Gucci products through the years. Tying together the disjointed series is a spare timeline covering major events in the fashion house. After 400 pages, the show of luxury and opulence may overwhelm the uninitiated, but for fashion students and enthusiasts, this is a volume worth studying.

5The Gucci book  Jan 09, 2007 By D. Humphries
I was absolutely amazed at the size of this book. It's huge! The pictures are wonderful. However, I wish that the personalities were named on the page of the photo instead of in a photo icon sized index in the rear of the book. Otherwise, a quite amazing journal on the history of Gucci.

2gucci by gucci  Mar 23, 2008 By S. Mouradova "booklover"
if you're looking for a book with a lot of history on Gucci, you will be disappointed. This is a nice coffee table book but not a great source for research.

4Good.  Jul 07, 2011 By Jason Chadwell
Gucci by Gucci is great. The text is good, but lacks some objectivity, -could read a bit like a very large brochure. The imaging is very good, but there not well labeled. Still, I would recommend.

5GLAMOROUS  May 22, 2009 By Marc C. Cutting
THE PHOTOS REALLY SHOW THE GLAMOUR THAT GUCCI HAS AND CONTINUES TO GIVE TO THE WORLD.

5Great overview of Gucci!  Feb 27, 2009 By Robin Fischer
This is a really comprehensive book which gives a great overview on the house and history of Gucci. The text in the beginning of the book doesn't look like much at a first glance, but the huge pages leaves you with just enough to read. The end of the book does also include a timeline with the most significant events in the history of Gucci. Maybe the text doesn't give any real pleasure to the hardcore Gucci fan, but I think it will do pretty well for all those who just want to know a little more about this exciting fashion house. Though I've to admit the text excludes some of the controversial moments in the history of the brand, and for those who want to fill their minds with this stuff I can highly recommend "The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed" by Sara G. Forden.

Talking about the pictorial part (which constitutes most of the pages in this rather big book), there is a really good collection of celebrities wearing Gucci clothes,of advertising campaigns and of all the iconic Gucci accessories. For the ones who only want to study sketches and the design process of the garments, this book could maybe be a dissapointment.

If you find the limited edition of this book in "la pelle guccissima slipcase" I highly recommend you to buy it, it's a gorgeous (and enourmous) tome which will make a significant enhancement too any coffee table.
