 Not really ready to use designs May 22, 2010

I really like the templates in the book, I was hoping that the CD will contain files that I'll be able to edit, resize etc and print out to use mainly for packaging gifts I give to my friends and family. The CD contains only jpg-s of the picture of the already put together template and on the right side is a picture of the template. Those can't really be modified like other packaging CD's I have gotten with other books. I was really disappointed about that.

As other reviewers stated, the CD contains only jpg images. Essentially, the CD is nothing more than the book on disc - basically just the pages of the book scanned in - it is actually convenient if you like to be able to view your books on the computer. In order to be useful, one must vectorize the designs themselves. I guess the CD is better than nothing - at least I don't have to scan in any patterns that I want to use, I can just import the jpg into my software and vectorize from there.
This brings me to the more important point - there are few packaging designs that impressed me. Most are rectangular boxes of some sort with different perforations for opening - a lot of variations on the same theme. Technically, these square/rectangular boxes may all be different, having different flaps, closures and cut-outs, but still, they're just boxes. Furthermore, I know I've seen some of these in other books. There are a few unique designs that I really liked, but one of the reasons I bought the book was because of the package on the cover - and it wasn't even included in the book!!
Was this worth the purchase price?? Well, I bought it used for 5 bucks, so I'd definitely have to say yes. After all, there are several designs that I can use without making any changes ... all I have to do is import the jpg files, vectorize them and they'll be ready to die cut. However, had I paid the full price, I probably would have been disappointed.

Excellent book. The pictures in the left side are very usefull for me, they really make easier my job. I did't like that the cd contains images in jpg format, but I require vectorial files for faster designs.
The CD came broken, but Amazon help me very fast. The problem is that I could not returm the damage package because the international shipping cost is more than the book cost.
