Structured Walkthrough of the Software Sep 29, 2008
By New England Yankee "Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Classroom in a Book" is Adobe's "official" training for Lightroom 2. That doesn't make it necessarily better or more enjoyable a course presentation, but it does give you some assurance that the contents are accurate. Actually, I'm not entirely sure whether Adobe publishes this book, or PeachPit publishes it using Adobe's imprimatur (I think the latter). In any event, you can get a feel for the writing and the instructional flow from the samples on PeachPit's web site for this title (look on the "extras" tab), which is helpful as Amazon doesn't have a "Look Inside" for this title.
The contents of the book include:
Getting Started 1. A Quick Tour of Photoshop Lightroom 2. Introducing the Workspace 3. Importing 4. Reviewing 5. Organizing and Selecting 6. Developing and Editing 7. Creating Slideshows 8. Printing Images 9. Publishing your Photos on the Web 10. Creating Backups and Exporting Photos Index
Personally, I think the material is a little dry, though I wouldn't over-emphasize that. You can contrast that against some of the comments concerning Scott Kelby's Lightroom book and his sense of humor. ... And then make your choice - or buy both! There's no doubt that Kelby's books are highly regarded! Kelby's book may be found here: The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2 Book for Digital Photographers (Voices That Matter)
What the Adobe book does very effectively is walk you completely through the software in a highly structured way, in essence teaching you not just the software, but workflow too. Amazon's price for this title is excellent.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Classroom in a Book Jul 26, 2009
By Rachelle Fullam This is a good book for learning Lightroom- a must have for older students or people who have a hard time learning how to use intensive programs like the Adobe software. The pictures are clear and instructions and examples are given for almost every command in the program. I would not really recommend this book to someone who is familiar with Lightroom as a good portion of this book is explaining the basic features. However, for someone who prefers instruction in a program as opposed to screwing around and figuring it out this book is a great way to go.

Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classroom in a Book Nov 15, 2008

Like all the books in the Classroom in a Book series, this is a very good option for people who do not have a lot of experience with Lightroom. This book is divided into 10 lessons organized by each of the processes through which passes a picture in a digital workflow that requires a photographer; this type of organization allows people who have some experience with the program can select the lessons want to focus on which to improve their skills.
Thanks to the CD that comes with the book, learning Lightroom becomes a 100% practical process because each lesson has its own set of images that correspond to those which have been used in the explanation of the book.
The explanation method is based on modular steps to ensure easy follow of the exercises and easily identify if we made any mistakes. In addition, to the end of each lesson will find questions with answers that help us to identify doubts that could be requiring a review of the lesson.
After reading this book you will have the sensation of having an instructor at her side. It's difficult to find a Lightroom book easier to read and understand that this.
Adobe Photoshop Lightroom Classroom in a Book is definitely the guide recommended for people who are just beginning to learn the program or for those who know him independently but want to lay the foundations for their knowledge. When you finish reading this book will be ready to follow other more advanced books which you can understand without any problem.

Straight-forward exposition on using Lightroom 2 Mar 01, 2010
By Jerry Saperstein This is a very straight-forward exposition on using Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2. There is no humor of the Scott Kelby variety, which many will find a blessing. Illustrations are plentiful and the instructions are stupefyingly clear. Overall, the treatment is thorough, but not advanced.
This book is intended to be used a teaching text. Just do step A, then B and so on. Go through it from start to finish and you will be more than passably competent and comfortable with using Lightroom 2. The approach is somewhat on the dull side, but it gets the job done.

Very difficult to follow instructions Jul 31, 2009
By William Powers
"William Powers"
I wish I could rate this book higher because the concept behind it is excellent. Unfortunately, the most important aspect of the book: How to use it with an enclosed CD is ridiculous.
Lesson 1 that begins on p. 22 is so poorly written as to be useless. This book was not edited, and it was clearly not written for the average (not pro/not Point and Shooter) DSLR photographer. Compare the narrative sections of the book with the instructive aspects (that are more important)and the latter stand out as being written by a tech-wiz that simply doesn't know how to write.
The narrative portion of the book is good, but Adobe simply has to train a few more people than Philip Andrews and Scott Kelby that can write well--this book should be an embarrassment to Photoshop.
