Learning Adobe Jun 24, 2010 Most Excellent lesson book. It has taught me many new photo and website design methods. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in a true hands on learning experience.
Colossal Waste of Paper and My Money Mar 30, 2010 "Classroom in a Book"? Hardly. I am intimately familiar with Photoshop CS3, and recently upgraded from it to the entire CS4 Design Premium. I bought this book with the expectation that it would be a "classroom" for me to learn the ropes of the other programs in the package that I have no familiarity with. It's fine if you're already comfortable with all the programs in CS3 and are just upgrading, but it is NOT for beginners for any of these programs. The lessons included for Photoshop were interesting for me, but I am already an advanced Photoshop user. Everything else in this book was absolutely useless to me because it assumes your familiarity with the software. This is honestly something that should be included when you buy the software package, not a book they charge you $60 for and market as something that it isn't. I'm glad that Adobe is improving their products and making them work well together, but I did not fork over my hard earned cash to get what is essentially a 300 page advertisement. I bought the software before I bought the book, I didn't need to read this book to be convinced of the software's prowess.
I love Adobe's products, but we all paid good money for the Design Premium package ($1800). The least they could do is not rip us off on a mostly useless "training workbook" that is not what we are looking for.
Just look elsewhere! Mar 03, 2010 I was required to purchase this book for my digital graphics class, when i got it home I was VERY disappointed with what is covered in the book. The first 118 pages are an overview of new features added since CS3. This is of no use to anyone who wants to learn the core skills of Adobe's design premium. The latter part of the book just touches on using some aspects of design premium, but does not help new users develop the work-flow they will need to use the software package efficiently. PLEASE don't waste your money on this book, it would be better spent on the individual classroom in a book series titles for the software packages you will actually use.
Adobe CS-4 'Classroom in a Book' Review Dec 17, 2009 Adobe is a very successful software developer who has released an official user aid for it's CS-4 version of Creative Suite software. The book is very well written, given that it appears to endorse a 'work in progress' movie as you read through it. It contains the basics on most of the CS4 suites and also includes tips and pointers on creating your own content. It is Adobe's flagship book for CS-4 and is definitely recommended if you own any of the student versions of any of the suites. (Note: Contains high resolution graphics, 321 pages and a online user CD.)
Don't waste your money Nov 16, 2009 This book is in my opinion nothing more than a series of Adobe promotional materials.
I have read more than half of this book and while the "gee it can do that factor" is there
it never seemed to show the "how to do it".
I think we all bought this "Classroom" book for "How To.." not for a features list.
This book is useless, watch the AdobeTV video tutorials instead.
Burn this book for it's heat value otherwise it is useless.
