This fabulous book graphically maps the evolution of American and European microbrewery labels, logos, and pub signs concentrating on their homegrown style of self promotion and artwork.

It documents a rare occasion when traditional graphic design (as employed by the giant breweries) is challenged with such boldness it has no option but to succumb.

Spencer Drate is a creative director and designer who has been honored with many awards. He was commissioned by the Chelsea Brewing Company to create the packaging for Sunset Red Ale and Blond Ale.

Thomas Olejar studied brewing at UCLA and has created a beer information software application for training and promotional use.

5A Must Have Beer Book  Nov 25, 2002 By Robert Olejar
This is the best book on beer labels ever written. If you like beer and would like to view an amazing collection of beer labels this is the only book for you. I am not sure how many beer labels are in this book, it must be several hundred, all in color. I got a copy of this a while back and I keep it on my coffee table. Everybody picks it up and loves it. It never gets old.

4Unique, captivating, delicious!  Sep 23, 1999
Labels of Distinction was a well-thought, brilliantly designed look into the art behind great beers. It provides amusing and though-provoking commentaries on the styles and types of beers unique to each region explored. More than just admiring great labels for their actual art, the book looks at why each label works to promote and sell each beer. A must read, as much for the knowledge you will gain on beer and its marketing as for the lables themselves.

5Excellent book, glad I was able to find it.  Jun 30, 2011 By T. Rider
I am a graphic designer commissioned to design labels and brand a new microbrewery in Southern California, and this book is rich with inspiration! I didn't know what I was getting into, but I sure like it! The artistry is amazing and what I love is that pretty much anything goes! What a treat to have such creative freedom.

Besides being just plain fun, this book is nicely produced and full of great stories about the beginnings of the microbrew revolution and the breweries that followed. Organized by region, it's fun to look through and reminisce about the places and pubs I've visited. It also sparked my adventurous spirit and makes me want to try new beers that I otherwise may not have noticed. Thanks for putting together such a beautiful collection.
